A thetan in good shape can be cause. When he looks at something in
the bank, it becomes the effect and he says, "I can do something about
this." The auditor wants this to happen. He wants to free up any
encysted initiative and get the pc into self-determined action. He
actually dares the pc to become overtly alive.

A description of the "Cat process" is given in "Intro & Demo
Processes & Assists", p. 123-4. It consists of encouraging a sick or
neurotic cat (or pet) to reach and then retreating from this until the
pet becomes overtly self-confident. ((The cat must be allowed to win
periodically.)) This description can be re-written to align with the
goals of auditing given above:

"Pcs are processed by building up in them the belief that they are
capable of handling something. A pc is given a mild challenge. The
moment he takes the faintest action to handle this, the auditor
encourages him unobtrusively. The pc is led more and more to handle
this challenge on a gradient scale, until he is very cocky and confident
about his ability to do so. Neurotic or depressed pcs will alter their
social behavior and will become well if this process is followed."

The key indicator appears when "The cat sees the mouse." The pc
reaches, however slightly. His havingness (the concept of being able to
reach and handle) comes up, he becomes cause and the bank becomes
effect, he gets interested (attentive with the intention to do something
about it) in his case (the sum total of by-passed charge), his confront
comes up (the TA falls) and Itsa and self-determined action results.

((There is some confusion here on the definition of by-passed
charge. Part of the problem is the ubiquitous existence of lousy models
for what charge, bank and engrams are in the first place.

You have engrams, which are unas-ised ridges of mental mest, that
are facsimiles of moments of unconfronted unwillingness. The not-is,
the protest, the non confront add up to a return flow from the pc
towards the incident which makes a persisting ridge out of the collision
of his protest flows and the event itself, and this creates what we call
a mental image picture, facsimile or engram.

Pcs can have an engram but sort of put it aside and forget about it
where it won't 'bother him' for a while, even though it is holding some
of his own protest flows in store for him. He still has the engram, and
the engram still has part of him too, so the engram can be brought back
to his attention again later by a restimulator.

When these engrams are later restimulated, or called into play,
they are made to poke the pc again, so that AGAIN he ridges with it
throwing MORE protest flows into it which stick to the ridge and don't
come back to him. Of course the more attention units he has tied up in
the ridge, the less he has for himself. Thus restimulation causes a
lowering of available units to the pc, and thus a lowering of general
ability and thus of tone as the pc tries to face the world with a
'monkey on his back' and lowered ability.

This accumulation of attention units in the ridge of a facsimile is
called charge, it is impacted, stuck attention units that are not free
for the thetan to use. In some sense the ridge acts as an absorber of
units, because every time the pc throws units at the image in protest,
they stick, and he doesn't get them back.

By Passed Charge is normally defined as charge that is restimulated
in session, but not blown.

What does this mean? It means an engram with charge in it, is
restimulated so that it moves back in on the pc where it is keyed in
again. In its keyed in state it can enturbulate the pc's free remaining
units, and the pc will protest the engram again and throw units at it
which will stick, thus losing more in the process. This is called
bypassed charge.

Thus any restimulation that leads to MORE charge being stuck on the
ridge results in By Passed Charge. It is charge that is 'passed by' or
overlooked, meaning the pc is not really noticing that it is getting
stuck, in fact he is trying to not noticing anything, he just wishes the
whole thing would go away.

He is not as-ising his protest as it is going on, he is not as-
ising the stuckness of his attention units, and he is bypassing or going
past the fact that stickingness is going on.

In this sense all stuck charge is bypassed charge, as the pc
managed to skip over or go past the fact that the protest he was
throwing at the incident was sticking to the facsimile and thus losing
him ground.

It is generally accepted that such engrams can become dormant,
meaning they take their charge and then move off to where the pc is no
longer thinking directly about them, and is no longer protesting them
and losing more charge to them.

The next time they get restimulated, or the pc gets reminded of it,
the engram moves back in, and the pc starts thinking about it, getting
mad at it all over again, feeling bad about it again, throwing more
units at it in protest, thus losing more units to the ridge.

During this time of 'key in', his general allotment of unstuck
units is enturbulated or colored by the pain in the incident, even those
units not directly being thrown at the incident nor being absorbed by
it.

Thus the incident becomes keyed in for a while into that pc. Later
it moves back off him, so it is keyed out, but it will have taken more
stuck protest units with it, so the pc is generally smaller and less
able and so lower tone.

While the incident is keyed in, it colors or enturbulates ALL or
most of the pc's free attention units, only some of which get thrown at
the incident and become stuck.

When the incident keys out, the remaining free units become
uncolored by the tone and injury of the incident, the pc forgets about
it for a while, and his general tone comes back up, but he is smaller,
and so his ongoing life problems weigh on him more. Thus he is more
sure he is losing and will be lower tone for it.

General tone equals Importance plus Probability of Success. The
importances in his life will not have changed, but his consideration of
his probability of success will have lowered, so his over all tone will
be sadder or madder or more scared.

(It is also possible for a pc to key-in an engram permanently, by
dramatizing it out of valence or by using its damage and injury to
create a chronic psychosomatic condition in the body, such as headaches
or back pains, or whatever.

Often the pc will flip back and forth between dramatizing out of
valence where he will feel no pain, but will be acting like someone in
the engram, and being in valence where he will be being himself when he
was crushed long ago, and he will have severe psychotraumatic pains all
over his body.

He is more sane when in valence but will be hurting badly. He
won't hurt so much when he is out of valence, but he will be as nuts as
they come, because he will be solving his present time problems by
acting like someone in his past in a completely irrelevant incident.)

Usually after a bout of dramatizing out of valence, getting things
done, working hard etc, he will flip back into valence and get that
headache that lays him flat on his back for two days.

Some people are so soldered into their chronic engram that they
just can't conceive of doing anything but their favorite dramatization
or having that splitting headache for a day or two.

At its very extreme the guy will alternate between wanting to kill
others and wanting to kill himself. His 'life' will consist of the
delicately balanced system of restraints that he has on himself to
prevent either from happening.)

Auditing is the process of selectively restimulating all these
charged facsimile incidents that have moved off the pc or keyed out, to
the point where he is not thinking about them. The purpose of keying
them in again, is NOT to have the pc lose more units to them again, but
to get the pc to REPLICATE the action of protesting the incident and
throwing units at it in such a way that not only do the new units not
stick, but old ones get freed up and return to the pc too!

This works because in auditing the pc is SELF DETERMINEDLY causing
the incident to key in, not against his will, and he is going through
all the motions of protesting the incident but doing so purposefully,
and it is the self determined purposefulness of the action that causes
an as-isness to take place rather than more stickingness.

The knowing willing responsible operation of Sovereignty always
undoes and vanishes any stuck condition. The way a being gets anything
to really stick hard in this universe is to willingly create it and then
immediately afterwards make himself utterly unwilling for it to be
there, for it ever to have been made, for ANYONE to have ever made it,
etc. His awareness of Willing Sovereign Creator is reversed into
Unwilling Non Sovereign Creature, and so the condition, being viewed
with a lie, persists for the rest of time.

The purpose of auditing is to bring back into view these moments of
Unwilling Non Sovereign Creatureness and get the pc to flip his
viewpoint back to Willing Sovereign Creatorness at which point he loses
the unwanted condition, because nothing can last in the sight of God.

Basically a God is not holding on to anything protesting it,
keeping it alive by showing everyone how horrible it is and how it
should be destroyed if only we could find out how.

Godness is a letting go-ness, and with no one holding onto the
thing or protesting it or its possible RECREATION BY OTHERS LATER, it
vanishes naturally.

Many times pcs just don't realize that they can vanish things in
their own universe merely by taking responsibility for them, making more
of them, operating them etc. They feel they are stuck with them, even
as they are vanishing, so they protest them trying to knock them out of
existence, and that sticks them in existence.

Or they have some consideration that it would be morally wrong to
not at least state a protest about how bad this thing is, even though if
they just let it be it would complete cycle and vanish. So they lodge
their protest, guaranteeing they have the moral high ground, but also
guaranteeing the continued existence of the unwanted God Awful thing for
the rest of time.

In many cases the protest is merely, 'This should never have
existed'. One can continue to be right and hold it up for all to see so
that all will know and remember that it should never have existed, which
of course makes sure it will never cease to exist. Or one can let it
go, and no one will know it should never have existed, because no one
will know it ever existed in the first place.

An as-isness is an as-isness. Not even YOU will remember it
existed.

Are you willing to have NO record left of your troubles?

We are not saying that the pc is God of everything, although he may
well be. We are saying that he is Creator of many things that he is
pretending he is not Creator of, and these have become an anathema to
him and are eating him alive, and that the only way to return the pc to
whatever Sovereignty he does have, is to get him to take back ownership
and responsibility for those things that now own him, that he himself
once owned.

By doing this properly, by getting the pc to consciously dramatize
the protest against the incident, the auditor recovers attention units
for the pc which results either in the incident owning none at all, or
owning a good deal less. Thus the next time the incident moves off the
pc and keys out, it will be much smaller in charge and less likely to
enturbulate the pc when it next moves in.

The greatest danger to the pc are the incidents he no longer knows
he has, and which he doesn't even know what they are when they key in!
He just knows he is enturbulated by them and he most likely will not
even recognize that they are the source of the enturbulation but blame
it on something in his environment.

By auditing such incidents, the pc at least comes to know they are
there, and then the next time they key in, he can look at them and
protest them consciously and thus by replicating the protest, not lose
more to the incident and maybe take back some already lost.))

Unless the pc sees his particular "mouse," however, this sequence
doesn't even begin, no matter how many rote robotic routines are "run."

This expression accurately describes a person who has just
recognized that he can DO something about something. Comparable
American expressions are: "He pricked up his ears, sat up and took
notice, and his eyes lit up." An ability to spot this indicator in its
subtler forms is useful; even if one is not a door-to-door salesman.
